I Was Sick Yesterday

I think I was sick yesterday.  And then I wasn’t.

I know this sounds strange. I never get sick. I have never gotten the flu (with the exception of February, 2020, when I’m 99% sure I got Cov!d before it was even a thing, but healed in 2 days).

Even if I feel the onset of a cold coming on, I never actually get it because I fight it off with my arsenal of supplements and food.

I use my daily “prevent-defense” strategy (it is football season…) by supporting my immune system with real food such as veggies, fruit, healthy fats (nuts, seeds, avocado, etc), clean animal protein, etc.

I also do believe in supplementation as our foods have been depleted of many important vitamins and minerals. So, part of my daily supplement regimen is Vitamin D, Vitamin C, Zinc, Selenium, Omega 3, Magnesium, Vitamin B-Complex and some other goodies.

So, to continue with my story, the day before yesterday, I got a powerful headache, which I rarely experience. My head was very heavy, and I was tired and couldn’t focus.

I thought it was due to what I ate as I went out of my zone a bit over the holiday weekend and had some foods I never eat.  I had a taste of cheesecake (I’m not sure why I couldn’t resist as I never eat dairy and haven’t had cheesecake in years…but I must admit that it was darn good!).

Then I overindulged in some nut crackers.  While “legal” in my world of food, but not when you consume the entire package!

I know that I “fumbled” food-wise over the weekend (yes, more football jargon), so it didn’t even occur to me that my headache was anything but payback from what I ate.

I went to sleep but woke up yesterday still with that darn headache.   And I was fuzzy and couldn’t focus all morning.  And then, the strangest thing for me was that I wasn’t hungry for lunch.  In fact, I couldn’t even fathom  putting anything in my mouth.  Yes, strange for me as I’m ALWAYS hungry for lunch.

That’s when it occurred to me–am I sick?

I know, I know. I sound very naive, but when it’s not ever on your radar, it’s not even a consideration.

But I realized my headache and the other symptoms may be from something other than eating badly.

I had to act quickly as I was looking forward to dinner plans with my bestie.  No way was I going to miss that.

So, right away I pulled out my playbook (my football-loving husband will be proud) with my basic arsenal of vitamin C and oil of oregano (Oreganol).

Linus Pawling made Vitamin C famous as he healed many with its application. Oil of oregano is a common natural antibacterial/antiviral that has been used for centuries.

I took 2000 mg of Vitamin C and one Oreganol gelcap (oil of oregano in a capsule).  Then I laid down for one hour.

When I woke up, I felt like I scored a touchdown!  I felt great and totally back to myself.  So, I continued to pump 3 more doses of Vitamin C and one more dose of Oreganol for good measure.  Then, I went off to a wonderful dinner:).

Score!

As a good football team knows, learning plays and practicing hard every day (keeping your body healthy so it is in a better position to fight against anything) is essential, but always be prepared for the unexpected (having other tools on hand when needed).
