How This Meaning Can Change Your Life

What’s the Meaning of THIS?

Well, that’s up to you.

You see, as humans, we love to attach meaning to everything.

And it is KEY to changing that meaning that is keeping a person stuck with a problem they want to solve.

For example, your scale told you that you weighed 170 pounds.  That’s a fact.

But if you thought to yourself that at that weight you feel badly that you still cannot fit into those size 6 jeans, that is attaching a subjective meaning to the fact.

However, another meaning or interpretation for you could have been that of victory because last week the scale said you were at 172 pounds.

Do you see how these interpretations could affect us in overcoming any problems or reaching goals?

The best part is that any interpretation can be changed.

So why not choose to have positive interpretations instead of negative ones?

In fact, that is what successful people do.

For example, they do not see life in terms of failures and successes, but rather in terms of successes and feedback.  Anything that is not success is evaluated for what can be learned and those learnings are incorporated into the next attempt.

“I have not failed.  I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”   ~Thomas Edison on inventing the lightbulb

“Many of life’s failures are experienced by people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”  ~ Thomas Edison

“Success is a stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm” ~ Winston Churchill

This is why NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) is so powerful.  It is an approach to understanding what makes someone successful.  How one person accomplishes a task can be copied and used by other people to improve themselves and excel at the same task.

For example, the definition of success may vary from person to person.  But ultimately, there is something we all want to achieve.  Many believe that reaching goals to become successful is difficult.

However, maybe something is interpreted as difficult because we “believe” it is difficult.

How do you define difficult?

What is the definition of easy?

What if we were to reframe our interpretation of “success being difficult” to “success being easy?”

After all, who said being successful is difficult?

So, when we reframe our interpretations of our thoughts, we look at the world in a different way that can make achieving anything easier.

Going back to the above example of weighing 170 pounds and wanting to release enough weight to get into size 6 jeans.

One interpretation of achieving that goal may be that it is hard and difficult to release weight, which often is based on past experiences.  And if we think it will be difficult to achieve that goal, then most likely it will be.  Our bodies respond to our thoughts in that way.

However, our past does NOT dictate our future. Only in our minds.  We indeed have the ability to reframe our thoughts and interpretations, so it is “easy” to release weight.  Then we can make that shift and get to that goal more easily.

Does that make sense?

If we dig deep and look at how we frame situations, we can then choose to keep the good frames that help getting us closer to our goal.  Such as celebrating that release of weight from 172 to 170.

Then we discard those frames that hold us back such as feeling badly for not getting to the goal yet.  Keep the positive and chuck the negative to help you work more efficiently toward that goal.

And of course, this can be applied to everything in life.

When we look at things in a more positive way and in that we have control on how we respond, we feel much more empowered to be able to get what we want.

So, take a look at the meanings and interpretations you attach to what you want in life.

Are they positive?

Or are they negative?

Perhaps you realize you need to reframe your thoughts and create new stories that will serve you better and help you get what you want more effortlessly.

Now, I want you to go back and read the above again.  And then one more time.
