20 Top Reasons to Drink Lemon Water

I have always been a big fan of lemons! I’ve been starting my day for years with the juice of fresh lemons in room temperature water.

The best part is that it’s easy!

And no, I don’t juice lemons every day. I usually juice about 3 lemons at a pop and store in a small glass dressings jar. Then, it’s always available for my morning lemon water and any recipes that need it.

I pour about 1 Tbsp of lemon juice (or about the juice of 1/2 lemon) into 16 ounces of room temperature water and drink it shortly after waking and brushing teeth.

No, NOT cold water as we don’t want to shock the body so soon after waking.

And, yes, AFTER brushing your teeth. Although lemon juice is acidic, it does not necessarily strip teeth of its tooth enamel. It can soften them for a short time after exposure. So, the best rule of thumb is to avoid brushing teeth at least 1/2 hour to an hour after drinking lemon juice.

To follow are some pretty powerful reasons to start your day with lemon juice and water so you can eliminate toxins, release weight, feel good and so much more:

  1. Cleanses out the liver by stimulating the production of bile, which helps “bring out the trash” from the liver to eliminate toxins and waste products.
  2. Raises Hcl (stomach acid you NEED) to help you break down minerals so they can be absorbed.
  3. Improves digestion (can help alleviate heartburn, bloat and indigestion).
  4. Leads to better hydration and provides natural electrolytes (as opposed to caffeine products such as coffee, tea and soda which are dehydrating).
  5. Boosts immune system.
  6. Effective for prevention of cough and colds with its rich source of vitamin C.
  7. Studies show that those with high levels of Vitamin C are less likely to gain weight.
  8. Helps decrease inflammation with its antioxidant properties.
  9. Aids in weight reduction as it increases metabolism.
  10. Improves brain function.
  11. Regulates pH levels as it raises alkalinity in the body.
  12. Helps to improve skin issues by helping to remove toxins and natural hydration.
  13. Helps to freshen breath with its natural antibacterial properties.
  14. Boosts energy levels by helping removing toxins, natural hydration, reducing inflammation.
  15. Helps reduce risk of cancer with anti-inflammatory properties.

  17. Lemons lower the absorption of sugar due to its alkalizing effect.
