Tips to Keep Your Food Fresh Longer

How often do you buy food just to see it go bad before it gets eaten. Check out these food saver tips to help keep your food fresh longer.

Bananas
Put saran wrap around the stems of the bananas to keep them from going bad

Bread
Of course you can freeze bread to stay longer but another handy trick is to place a stick of celery in the package. This will add moisture and keep your bread staying fresh longer.

Apples

How often would you like to cut up your apples for later without it getting brown? The trick is to cut them and then place them back in the original shape of the apple. Then, simply put a rubber band around the apple to hold it together. The sugars in the apple touching each other will keep it from getting brown.

Celery

Maximize the life of celery by wrapping it in aluminum foil and put in the fridge. This will keep the celery cooler and it keep it fresher longer.

Onions
With this trick, onions will last months. Simply insert each onion one by one in a pair of stockings. Be sure to separate them so they don’t touch in the stocking.

Berries
Keep your berries from getting moldy by giving them a vinegar and water bath (1 part vinegar to 3 parts water). Then rinse well and blot dry to remove the vinegar. Store in fridge. This will remove bacteria that contributes to mold.

Potatoes
To keep potatoes from sprouting, store them in a cool, dry place. Also add an apple to the bag of potatoes to extend the life of the potatoes.
