“Every new beginning comes from other beginning’s end.”
Moving, moving and more moving as we celebrate lots of new beginnings.
That seems to be the theme over these past few months.
First, we helped my daughter with a big move from home in New Jersey to West Palm Beach, FL in November.
Then, a few months later, we moved my mom into a Retirement community in FL.
Now, it is our turn as we move out of New York City and head down to the Jersey Shore.
We are ending our 4 ½ years in the “Big City,” as my husband, Mike, starts his new beginning as a retiree. Are we even that old?!?
Our kids would say that we are-of course…
We have moved quite a bit over the years-9 times in total. So, we are no strangers to packing up and moving. We have even gotten pretty good at it.
However, this one feels different.
You see, we have been blessed with our house at the Jersey shore for 33 years, which we bought just a few months before we got engaged. Our beloved weekend house has been the one constant house that the kids have grown up in over the years. So, it has many special memories for us.
We finally started renovating the outside last summer and now we are currently renovating the inside to accommodate us living at the house full time.
It’s exciting and a bit unsettling at the same time.
The truth is that I’m not really a city girl at heart. I prefer to be in nature. That’s why I’ve always been so grateful where we live here in the City as we are right by the river with beautiful parks that I run and walk in every day. I’ve enjoyed my time here but am ready to move on.
Of course, it’s a bit stressful at the moment as we try to consolidate. Four and a half years ago, we downsized from a larger home to a small 2-bedroom apartment here in NYC. No small feat!
Now, we must pare down even more to move to our shore house that already is pretty much full. It has very little storage (as it was always more of a weekend home).
So, we are adding storage and closet space and hoping all will fit!
Plus, living and working arrangements will be interesting as we have no real office space in the house. Mike will be working remote for 6 months before he officially stops working, and I have always worked from home. So, another new beginning with lots of togetherness in a “cozy” home!
So, while nothing is perfect with lots of uncertainties, I am beyond grateful for what we have and what we have to look forward to.
My mantra all last year and this year has been, “Everything always works out.”
And this little phrase has seriously helped me in so many ways.
I have had so many stressful moments with so many decisions to make over the past few months. But every time I feel overwhelmed and stressed, I make myself smile and say, “It will all work out because it always does.”
And I really believe it. And it always helps. And it always helps me to shift my emotions to bring me more peace, calm and clarity.
While it doesn’t make the problems go away, it sure makes them easier to deal with.
The words we say to ourselves really make a difference as our subconscious minds hear everything we tell it. And our bodies respond accordingly.
I feel so different than I have in the past as I am much more calm knowing that everything will work out, and now, my body is not as tense as it used to be.
I guess that’s one good thing about getting older. All of my experiences have given me lots of wisdom. And I have experienced what works and what doesn’t.
So, I will keep plowing ahead with what works while still learning new things every day.
The one certain thing I’ve learned we can count on is change.
So, I choose to embrace all of these changes as new beginnings, new opportunities and new chapters, as I know everything will always work out.
I encourage you to create your own mantra to help you always stay positive and bring you clarity and calm.
And I’ll keep you posted next month after we officially move on to our next chapter.
“It is our choices that show what we truly are far more than our abilities.”
