We’ve officially entered into the most festive, yet most stressful time of year!

Between work, parties, family, gift-giving, holiday planning, etc., our plates seem to be more full than ever.

How can we deal with it all and still stay focused and enjoy this time?  You can TAP into a simple and effective method to help you:

-Remove Negative Emotions

-Reduce Food Cravings

-Reduce or Eliminate Pain

-Implement Positive Goals

This technique is called Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT and it works!  I use it all of the time.

EFT is a form of psychological acupressure, based on the same energy meridians used in traditional acupuncture to treat physical and emotional ailments for over five thousand years, but without the invasiveness of needles.

Instead, simple tapping with the fingertips is used to input kinetic energy onto specific meridians on the head and chest while you think about your specific problem – whether it is a traumatic event, an addiction, pain, etc. — while using voice positive affirmations.

This combination of tapping the energy meridians and voicing positive affirmations works to clear the “short-circuit” – the emotional block — from your body’s bio energy system, thus restoring your mind and body’s balance.  This is essential for optimal health and can even help healing of physical disease (yes, this may help you if you are physically sick…).

Some people are initially wary of the principle that EFT is based on the electromagnetic energy that flows through the body and regulates our health.  This is only recently becoming recognized in the West as we see more and more success with it.

There are even many recent studies now showing that affirmations of acceptance and forgiveness is far more effective than willpower and negativity of oneself.

Using forgiveness along with tapping on points that may be blocked has been proven to be a powerful yet simple tool in releasing emotions, physical symptoms and so much more.

Five Basic Steps:

1. Tune into the emotion or your problem by actually trying to hold it in your thought

Ex. I can’t control myself from overeating those holiday cookies

2. Test the initial intensity. Here you establish a before level of the issue’s intensity by assigning a number to it on a 0-10 scale where 10 is the worst the issue has ever been and 0 is no problem whatsoever.

This serves as a benchmark so we can compare our progress after each round of The Basic Recipe.

If, for example, we start at an 8 and eventually reach a 4, then we know we have achieved a 50% improvement.

This is very useful in assessing the progress in so many issues.

For emotional issues, you can recreate the memories in your mind and assess their discomforts.

For physical ailments you can simply assess the existing pain or discomfort.

For performance issues you can attempt the desired performance level and measure how close you come to it.

3.  The Setup:  The Setup is a process we use to start each round of tapping. By designing a simple phrase and saying it while continuously tapping your points, you let your system know what you’re trying to address.

When designing this phrase there are two goals to achieve:

~ Acknowledge the problem

~ Accept yourself in spite of it

Then use the traditional Reminder EFT phrase following the set up:

“Even though I have this ____________,I deeply and completely accept myself.”

Here are a few examples:

For overeating cookies–“Even though I can’t stop eating these cookies, I deeply and completely accept myself.”

For feeling overwhelmed with an impossibly long to-do list–“Even though I feel overwhelmed and am afraid I cannot complete my list of things to do, I deeply and completely accept myself.”

4.  The Sequence: This stimulates/balances the body’s energy pathways. It is the main part of the EFT basics process.  To perform it, you tap each of the points shown in the Sequence Points diagram (see above) while saying a Reminder Phrase (step 3) that keeps your system tuned into the issue. See the points below followed by a description of the Reminder Phrase.

State the affirmation with great passion and insert the emotion you want to rid yourself of. Do this while tapping the points below with index and middle finger.

Karate Chop

Top of Head

Eye Brow

Side of the Eye

Under the Eye

Under the Nose

Chin

Collar Bone

Under the Arm

5. The Suggestions:  Repeat the same sequence above, except that rather than repeating the problem, you repeat positive suggestions for each point.

For example:

For overeating cookies–“I will eat one cookie/have one bite of a cookie and feel completely and totally satisfied.”

For feeling overwhelmed with an impossibly long to-do list–

“I am completely calm and in control and will complete one task at a time.”

6. Test the intensity Again: Finally, you establish an after-level of the issue’s intensity by assigning a number to it on a 0-10 scale. You compare this with the before level to see how much progress you have made. If you are not down to zero then repeat the process until you either achieve zero or plateau at some level.

When the emotion or the intensity of physical feeling has decreased end the loop by tapping on the top of the head.

7. When your intensity level get to 0, then re-tap with the the sequence using any of these statements of affirmation:

I love and accept myself

I am worth feeling happy

This frustration is now gone

I am whatever I think I am.

I now choose to love and accept myself

It is good to be alive

I can let my light shine now

I am turning negative emotion into positive emotion

Life is good, life is easy, my life is an abundance of wonderful blessings

I know this may seem a bit strange to do, but give it a try.  It’s pretty quick and super easy.  I use it all the time before I speak to a crowd or if I have a food craving or if I get upset about something.  It is truly amazing how much it works.  I guarantee you will have plenty of opportunities to use this amazing tool during this time of year!
