You’ll Never Believe Who is Malnourished

It’s official.

People throughout the world in developed countries are dying from a growing epidemic. People are suffering from malnutrition.

However, it’s not those gaunt, stick figure-like people with the protruding bellies you may be picturing.

Today’s malnourished people are actually overweight and obese. How can that be?

Well, the “food” many people are eating isn’t really food.

There is such an increase in processed food consumption that has little or no nutritional value with ingredients that we can’t even pronounce. Therefore, the body does not recognize it as “food” or “fuel” for the body.

Then, to add insult to injury, while the body tries to figure out what to do with the processed food, it gets stored as fat and even in existing fat.

Processed foods also put stress on the organs in the body as they try to figure out how to deal with these foreign pieces of matter.

The UN’s Millennium goal 30 years ago was to end starvation. Now, one of the primary risk factors for the world’s greatest cause of premature death is obesity. In fact, we now realize that far more people die worldwide from four major global diseases:

  • Diabetes
  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Lung Disease
  • Cancer

More and more evidence is pointing to the above diseases being directly or indirectly related to the toxic food we put in our body.

Even scarier is how quickly our children have become affected. The American Center for Disease Control reports that in the past 30 years, obesity in children age 6-11 has doubled while adolescents age 12-19 has quadrupled.

It is with these incredible statistics in mind that I encourage all of you and your families to eat real, one-ingredient food and listen to your body. If you feel fatigued, have chronic sinus issues, allergies, headaches, joint pain and more, this can directly be related to the “fuel” you are putting in your body.

It’s not just us humans either. This also rings with any other living being such as our pets.

Just yesterday, my husband’s co-worker was telling Mike that his dogs had allergy symptoms. They constantly scratched and looked off. The vet even put them on anti-anxiety meds! Sound familiar to any humans out there?

Well, Mike’s co-worker decided to ditch the processed kibble and feed his dogs real food like chicken and beef. “Miraculously,” the dogs improved dramatically. Their allergies disappeared and no longer take any medication.

Socrates said,”Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”

Yes, thousand-year old advice still rings true. Especially now.

So, please please, boost your immune system so it is better equipped to fight more efficiently with whatever comes its way.

Be kind to your body and feed it the one-ingredient foods you find on the perimeter of your market. In fact, your body will start to crave it once the processed food residues on your tongue start to dissipate.

Take time to experiment with things you may not have tried before. You may be surprised at what you like and even create some new faves.

My family has fallen in love with Miracle Noodles. In fact, I just ordered more today from Thrive Market! They have no-carbs as they are made out of a root vegetable called konjac. They don’t taste like much on their own but take on the flavor of however you season it.

We have enjoyed sauteeing Miracle Noodles with Coconut Aminos or just with tomato sauce.
